Mavenir Systems Launches IMS Centralized Services Solution

TMCnet Contributing Editor

Mavenir Systems (News - Alert) has launched its IMS Centralized Services (ICS) solution, which it says is the first of its kind in the industry. ICS solution will enable service providers to deliver IMS services directly to 2G and 3G-CS mobile devices. It is defined in collaboration by 3GPP members in the Technical Specification 23.292. With this, forced up-grades of three billion mobile devices worldwide can be eliminated.

ICS will enable end users to access rich converged services with a consistent user experience across all devices. It will also enable operators to deploy flexible femto-zone services with domain selection across traditional 2G/3G and IMS network architectures.

Mavenir previously launched its mOne convergence gateway. It is designed in such a way that it can be introduced seamlessly into fixed, mobile, and broadband networks, while allowing for scaling cost effectively from small to very large service deployments.

Mavenir’s mOne convergence gateway is in various stages of deployment, with multiple operators spread across U.S. and Europe. It enables service providers to utilize their existing and next-generation networks, to deploy multimedia seamlessly across fixed and mobile domains. The latest mOne software release will have ICS compliant functionalities, which have already been validated by several Tier 1 carriers globally.

“The Mavenir team made a commitment to work together with our customers and industry peers, in an effort to move this innovation forward with a standards-based approach that benefits the industry,” said Payam Maveddat, vice president of Product Management for Mavenir Systems. “The mOne ICS solution marks a significant industry milestone that paves the way to accelerate IMS services deployment for global mobile operators. Operators gain new revenues from their existing subscriber bases and evolve their networks cost effectively.”

“Lost amid all of the hype that IMS has generated over the past couple of years is the reality that the architecture and related technologies will not take hold over night and will not fill all of the requirements for intermingling technologies and devices associated with existing services environments,” said Joe McGarvey, principal analyst with Current Analysis. “Mavenir’s mOne Convergence Gateway (News - Alert) is dedicated to filling these technology gaps, enabling mobile operators to begin realizing the benefits of IMS immediately without burdening the business case and providing a rich user experience to existing customers.”
