The Basics of Secure SIP Trunking
By Mae KowalkeMany service providers are now offering an application called SIP trunking, which helps reduce communications costs for enterprises. SIP trunking achieves its cost-cutting power by eliminating the need for PSTN
gateways, unused BRI/PRI capacity, and underutilized phone lines or trunks at remote offices.
Importantly for enterprises taking a gradual upgrade approach, SIP
trunking connects SIP users with those still using traditional telephony, bridging the gap between the PSTN and IP communications.
As great as SIP trunking
is, however, some companies are wary of it due to security concerns. There are security measures that can be taken to make SIP trunking enterprise-worthy, but there is also a lot of hype about such solutions, creating a good deal of confusion.
To cut through this confusion, a free Webinar, Secure SIP Trunking: What You Need to Know, will be held April 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. ET (11:00 a.m. PT). This Webinar will be presented by Steven Johnson, president at Ingate Systems (News - Alert); Dan York, Director at Voxeo and chair for VOIPSA; and Erik Linask, TMCnet Group Managing Editor.
Johnson, York and Linask will explain which SIP trunking security measures work, and which don’t. The discussion will include a look at common SIP trunking security misconceptions, along with the requirements for overcoming challenges. The presenters will also explain how SIP trunking can be more secure than traditional telephony.
Included in the presentation will be a rundown on the basics of enterprise security and VoIP
, new security technologies now available, and how to future-proof networks.
Don’t forget to check out TMCnet’s White Paper Library, which provides a selection of in-depth information on relevant topics affecting the IP
Communications industry. The library offers white papers, case studies and other documents which are free to registered users. Today’s featured white paper is Convergence in Telecommunication, brought to you by Comarch (News - Alert).
